Lance hesitated, slightly, but it seemed like a very usual thing for Shade to sneak out... with, or without parental permission. um... we'll be heading for the everfree, Shade seems to have something in mind, around there... Lance followed after Shades' parents, but there was an undeniable feeling that something was wrong...

Shade was ready to jump at the intruder, but though she loved dangerous situations, she wasn't all reckless. When the door opened, she immediately noticed two things: First, the thief was much larger than her, almost an adult. Second, he was cautious. A worthy opponent. She grinned widely around the handle in her mouth, considering to put the knife away until a short reflection told her of the weapon the intruder had. Was he willing to use it? Adrenaline rushed through her blood, one of the reasons why she loved this. It simply felt so good. Time to tell her opponent that she accepted the challenge. Her horn glowed only for a split second as she slammed the library door shut, and again as she turned the key around and threw it somewhere into the darkness. The curtain should have hidden the light well enough. If he hadn't seen that, the rest of her was hidden well enough in the darkness, and she was patient enough to wait for his next move.

-- Outside --

The glow around the keys and Quillstroke's horn suddenly vanished, Shade's parents both dumbfounded. The Everfree? Sure, they had known that Shade was up to no good, that she was planning on something dangerous, but this was something new. No other city to sneak through or a climbing tour, but the most dangerous place in Equestria? Where countless ponies got lost in? And she was dragging another foal she hardly knew along with her! They threw worried looks to each other before Quillstroke picked up the keys again. They quickly went inside, switching on the lights in the rooms they passed through. Shade, come out! We know you're here, Dreamword called out angrily. They were searching the ground floor first, taking a bit before they would go upstairs.

Scrapper immediately spun around to check what closed the door behind him, nothing did. But that mean't magic was involved, great. He turned back around as the door seemingly locked itself and threw away the key. "Nice trick" he whispered to himself. He quickly examined the corridor directly across the hall was the staircase leading downstairs, near a window. The hallway was mildly long, it would make sense. Buildings in Canterlot were longer to accommodate more space.
He slowly made his way towards the stairs, checking every corner, every piece of Decor that could be used as a hiding spot. He just passed a mildly big pillar looking object that held a vase, obviously something could have hidden behind it so he checked and found nothing. But an unknown voice called from somewhere downstairs, who the hell was Shade? It must have been an occupant he was unaware of and also the one who shut the door on him. The lights suddenly came to life and he could see again, but that mean't bad news since the only way out was the window near the stairs, and the owners were home. He took a few cautious steps back and hid behind the pillar with the vase, it could easily be tipped over but now that he could see he'd probably be able to tell if it was going to happen.

Sure, the parents had to come right when it's about to get interesting. For now there was only light shining from downwards, but it was enough to make Shade easily visible once she came out. With her biggest advantage gone, she quickly thought about other possibilities. He had hidden behind the vase...
Staying close to the wall the pillar was standing at, so that she might be harder to notice, she sneaked up on him, quite fast for making so little sound. With a little luck whatever could be would be drowned by the noise her parents were making downstairs. Before she had fully reached the pillar, she gave the vase on it a slight push and let it fall on the intruder, either hitting him or forcing him out of his little hideout. In both cases he would have to deal with the black unicorn filly jumping at him, the knife leaving her mouth and being controlled by telekinesis, though Shade didn't plan on seriously injuring him just yet. For now, it was only planned as argument not to try anything funny, if she managed to get it to her opponent's throat. That he had a weapon as well wasn't forgotten, though mostly ignored for now: Shade counted more on surprise than superior weaponry.

Scrapper didn't know if the voices from downstairs would come up, not to mention the other problem he had at the moment. He could try another room but the window next to the stai-.
His train of thought was stopped by something hard knocking against the back of his head, then he seen the vase that was above him bounce off the floor. It didn't shatter, but he obviously had a more prominent problem now.

Still slightly dazed he broke cover and backed away from the pillar he had hid behind, then he saw a pitch black unicorn hovering a kitchen knife in front of him. Shaking his head quickly to recuperate from the sudden bash in the back of the head, he got into a more combat ready stance and didn't waste time running at the unicorn. Once he got close enough, he swung his much larger knife to the left then to the right in quick succession, hoping for a hit.

That pony recovered faster than Shade had expected, and when she realized that she had to stop her charge, it was almost too late. The first sweep missed, the second left a cut over her chest as she slidingly came to a halt. The wound wasn't deep, almost the knife would have missed again, and the pain caused by the injury was losing against too huge amounts of adrenaline. The glow of her horn gave away an expression of somwhat crazed joy as she instantly attacked again, her right front hoof rushing towards his face. This time she was keeping track of the enemy's knife, and of her own. In the heat of the moment it had flown past her opponent, and was now coming back, this time for an actual attack.

Second time was.. kinda the charm. Although it didn't seem to do much more than make his opponent look like they belonged in a mental hospital.
She went for him again, he noted the kitchen knife was not near her either. Could it be coming from behind? She is a Unicorn after all so it's entirely possible, not only that she went to hit him across the face.

There was only one simple thing he could do, so he did it; he ducked under her swing. That could lead to the knife flying over him too. If he was lucky.

The knife had been aimed for the neck, and was now closly passing Shade herself. Her hoof went into nothing as well, her opponent was faster than her. Having put most of her weight into it, it brought her off balance a little, which needed some time to correct before she finished the already started turn and tried to buck him. The kitchen knife meanwhile was taking a turn to be ready, but now Shade had no good aim and so it waited, floating in the air.

Scrapper seen the filly throw her weight into the hit and saw a chance, he forced himself forward. He got a quick buck to the chest but undoubtedly forced her to the ground. he saw the hovering knife that had no target. He thought of only one way to get her to release it.

He needed to make her lose focus on the object, at least that's how he thought it went. He put his blade in his mouth and used both hooves to bring her head towards his, ending it with a strong headbutt.

Luckily he was kinda hard headed, but he wasn't daft. He backed away and took hold of his blade again, turning to see if that dazed his opponent enough to have her drop her weapon.

Shade? What's happening up there?, came a shout from downstairs, followed by the sound of rushing hooves, right on cue with her weapon landing clattering on the ground. The headbutt didn't only cause her to lose focus on her weapon, it also left her dazed for some time before she recovered and got on her hooves again. And she still was rather lightheaded.

Scrapper forced the mare to the floor again, she was clearly dazed. And that voice just revealed her possible name. He put his knife to her throat, "Shade huh?" He looked towards the stairs and recalled the previous fight. "You stayed hidden well enough, your fighting isn't that good though. You should fix that, but all in all..." He looked back at the mare and said in a very smug, memorable tone, "You're pretty good!" he followed it with a gesture with his left-hoof.

He backed off and headed for the stairs, but halted when he seen a figure appear at the top. Stopping him for getting to the window.

Shade tried to defend herself, but her reaction was too slow. Held to the ground with a blade on her throat, that was something new. She had believed that she could simply shrug it off if it should happen (which she had been quite certain of as well), but now that it really happened she found herself actually scared. She hadn't even thought of the possibility that she could die in this fight. But despite the fear, that fight had been great! Short, but it had been the first serious fight. Her insecurity was hidden behind a mask of neutrality, simply staring at the earth pony. She hadn't expected him to commend - and critizize - her, and let her go. In surprise she looked after him, and noticed the problem he found himself in.
Who are you?, Quillstroke asked sternly when he saw the unknown. Then his eyes fell on his daughter, and the cut she had on her breast. Shade, what...
He was interrupted by Shadowstrike suddenly jumping onto her hooves again and looking frantically over the floor. Quickly she found what she was looking for, the key to the library, and opened the door again.
Next time I'll beat you. Go!, she said to the intruder, and charged passt him, and past her baffled parents on the stairs. Sorry, no time to explain, see you!
Shade, wait!
It was useless. The filly grabbed the full pair of saddlags for herself, the other one she levitated out of the kitchen to Scintillance. Come, we have a train to catch, she said as she stormed out the building.

He was in a bit of a problem, both exits blocked and a mere few seconds before the 'Parent?' knew what was going on. The next Immensely unexpected thing to happen was the unicorn he just beat opened his exit, by what she said she wanted redemption later on. So she wanted him to remain Uncaught. He watched the black Unicorn take off, obviously doing something she shouldn't be. That explains the bags. He looked to the parent and quickly said, "She is something, huh?" ending it with a laugh.
Before they could blink he'd shot into the library and back out the window, scaling the rooftops to get back to his safe house. No luck with that little heist, but fun none the less.

Lance grabbed the bags without question and followed after Shade, more relieved that he suggested. Um, bye mister and misses Shade's parents! after getting some distance from the building, Lance finally opened his mouth to speak, not that it wasn't open and panting for breath already- "OH THANK CELESTIA Shade you saved my neck back there. I swear, a few more moments and I would've fainted... and really I wouldn't have minded fainting right then and there but..."
Lance took a massive gasp for air. He forgot that he had to breath between sentences, "I'm afraid I told your parents that we're heading for the Everfree... how bad is that?

Shade was widely grinning as they ran away, this adventure was beginning just right. She glanced at her cut, and decided that it wasn't deep enough to require a bandage. When the two slowed down, she simply wiped away the blood, the rest of the injury was hidden well enough by her fur. Her good mood seemed to waver a bit when Lance confessed his slip towards her parents. Idiot..., she muttered at first, slightly angry about him not being able to shut up when necessary. That means the guard will be searching for us, she told him, and her smirk returned. Actually, that makes it even more interesting.
All the while, she continued to trot towards the train station, looking out for Skylight.

now that they've slowed down, Lance had the chance to notice something a little red on Shade's front, and his worry was only confirmed when Shade whiped it away. Sh-Shade! you're hurt! what happened!?

Somepony tried to break in. And he had a sharp knife, Shade explained shruggingly, hopefully Lance would realize that the injury didn't matter to her. I hope I meet him again some time, he owes me a fight.

Skylight was already waiting at the train station as she saw the two others arrive.
"There you are. What took you so long?", she asked. She was wearing a saddle bag over her back that was filled up with some food supplies and water, a rope, a knife and bandages. She wasn't able to think of more, nor had she the space or time for more.
Now she was looking expectantly at Shade and Scinti. She couldn't recall to ever have been as excited as today.

There was a burglar at home, Shade grinned widely, excited about what already lay behind her and what was about to come. I didn't beat him, but it was awesome anyway. For a moment, she took on a more serious expression. And Scintillance told my parents where we're going, we should be on the lookout for guards.

Lance was still pretty worried about Shade, even more that she seems to disregard it. Glad to see Skylight, but still, Yeah, and Shade here's bleeding! he waved his hooves in the air, over dramatically. the bag Shade had hoofed over to him followed suit, even though gripped in levitation.

Sky laughed in disbelief. "A burglar? Are you kidding?"
As Scint then said that Shade was bleeding, she looked her all over. "I see nothing." That didn't mean anything since it was dark and Shade's fur was even darker. She shruged. "As long as she can still walk and doesn't bleed to death it's alright, I guess. But I have some bandages with me if need be...?" She stated it as a question.

Shade shook her head as she looked over the schedule and identified the platform they had to go to. Not necessary, Lance is only making a fuzz about a little cut, she said and headed off, throwing a curious glance at the young colt. I wonder how he'll react when I tell him that I actually ended up with a knife at my throat.

Lance half-casually trotted up besides Shade, with a simple "Oh, Lance he'd react something like this." Lance then instantly leapt into the air, flailing his hooves about and seemingly hovering as he shouted "YOU ENDED UP WITH WHAT!?" before gravity decided to work like it should again, and pulled him to the ground.

Skylight followed Shade, smirking as she heard what her friend said and bursting into laughter as Scint gave the best outburst she could imagine. "Why, I wonder how you get in all those situations, Shade. Really. You attract danger, don't you? - And where were you?", she asked Scintillance, still grinning.

Scintillance wasn't giving up; this tiny cut could be the end of her. "Shade, what if you manage to hit yourself on the same spot!? the cut would hurt and distract you from whatever it is you are doing at the moment and if it's rally important like life-threatning important than you're going to be distracted and actually kill yourself or end up in a hospital bed like if you're climbing up a wall and you're distracted and then slip and fall really really really far do-" Lance immediately took a large inhalation, lacking air. "really really far down! Wow that was a mouthful."

She grinned to show him that she wasn't mad at him, just curious. Though, it occured to her too late, she maybe shouldn't have reminded him...

The train was already waiting at the platform, and a few ponies were busy boarding or saying goodbye to their friends and families, but not many decided to take the night train. Shade led them along the train, keeping an eye on the train guards. When she spotted a sufficiently unguarded entrance she made a quick stroll to it and vanished inside where she proceeded to find a nice - empty! - compartment.

(( I'm going with ticket control upon boarding the train, as we've seen in S03E11, Just for Sidekicks. ))

That comment. that one comment from Skylight. It put Lance into a momentary stun-blush, before he kicked his gears to grind again, and started trotting back and forth. "OHnonononononono! you're right! you're absolutely right! that's WORSE than Shade's scratch, how can I forget!? AND it's all my fault! oh no, you're going to end up even worse because of me... Lance was well into an vacillating monologue when Shade finally took off into the train, and when he finally noticed he rushed after her, calling "Hey wait for for me!"

Sky couldn't help but laugh. It's been so obvious that Lance would react that way. "It's alright, it's alright. As you can see my wings still carry me."
And with these words she walked...pardon, flew into the train, following the other two.
Inside she made up for Shade. "Can it be", she whispered, "that we have no tickets?" She grinned slightly.

Could be, Shade replied shruggingly. Don't know if they'd even sell tickets to us, and since Lance told my parents where we're going we'll have to be on the lookout anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if there are guards waiting for us in Ponyville.

In this moment the train began moving, and soon after left the city, providing a great lookout on Equestria at night. The lights of the small country town they were heading to were visible in the distance, right next to the big darkness that was Everfree Forest. Even though the sky was cloudless, Luna's light was almost completely swallowed by the unnatural woods.

Lance's eyes widened at Sky's remark, and he quietly muttered "w-we... we have no- before his pointless muttering was interrupted by Shade's reply, and he simply lost it. he shuffled his hooves in a curious way that somehow got up up and down the train compartment, endlessly talking to himself. Ok. we're ok. we're on a train illegally without tickets to ponyville. that's ok. and when we get there there may or may not be guards -big guards- waiting for us. and if they catch us I'm going to be grounded for life. no I'm already grounded for life. I'm going to be grounded for Shade's life. Sky's too. that's... that's a lot of lives. and Shade..." Scintillance was inches away from bumping into Shade, but stopped abruptly and paused to stare at her awkwardly, and then promptly hopped over her as if nothing actually happened, "Shade knows what she's doing. yep, we're gonna be ok because Shade knows what she's doing, or at least looks like she knows what she's doing and that's probably enough. hopefully. I hope that's enough. and Skylight... like he did to Shade before, he paused to look at Skylight, and hopped over her. even if she was hovering.
Mhm, Sky is... is...whoah... The lights in the distance caught his attention, and he hopped onto one of the seats and sat to look out the window. "...Pretty sky light..." he was too enthralled to realize what he just said... yet.

Skylight watched Scint walking up and down, and grinned. She made herself comfortable in one of the seats as Scint was looking outside admiring the sky. She bursted into laughter and grinned even more at Scint's words. Just too cute. Especially cause he seemed to be oblivious to what he just said.
Watching Scint distracted her from the upcoming adventure they were heading to.

Hearing skylight snapped him out of his light-watching trance, and made him conscious of what he just said, leaving him with a clearly visible blush as he turned to face her "n-no I didn't mean it like that! I was talking about the sky lights outside! not you! um... not that I don't think you're pretty, well, acually I think you're very pretty, but... I... um... I'm hopeless. *THUMP* Scintillance instantly flopped forward and planted his face in the seat with no warning

Skylight watched Scint with raised eyebrows and a jolly smile on her lips. "Well, I know. Probably the reason why that's my name", she said lightly laughing, not a hundred percent sure what she'd just said.
She patted Scint's head. "You know, you really are too cute."

Shade stood with a baffled expression, her eyes darting between her friend and Scintillance, unsure what to make of the situation. Was Skylight... FLIRTING WITH SCINTILLANCE?!? Nonono, that wasn't good. The unicorn shook her head clear and stepped between the two. So, let's talk about how we deal with possible guards waiting for us in Ponyville, any ideas? Yes, that's good, let them think of something else!

Lance laughed when Skylight did, about as sure about why he laughed as she was about what she said. He raised his head from the comfort of the seat and gave Sky a shy smile, or at least started to when Shade stepped between them. then he was just tilting his head to the side and try to see Skylight past Shadowstrike, flapping his hooves before falling to his side, and lifting himself back up. As much as Shade was ruining the moment, she had a point. Lance re-seated himself as to make a triangle-of-sitting, and kept shifting his eyes to Sky, before an idea hit him. he suddenly ducked under the seat, and pulled out a large cowpony hat, and threw it over his head before pulling a full stallion-sized coat over himsellf, wrapping his neck with a pink scarf, offering the two fillies a wild grin. He would up looking like a removed head of a stallion with missing front and back legs. "how's this?"

The moment Shade began to speak, Sky brought her into focus without any difficulties. She had to confess that it was a good question but she wasn't worried though she had no idea.
But as Scint pulled out that hat, coat and scarf, she was speechless. She had to stare at him with open mouth before she finally could say something again, that was: "What...the hay..." Her voice faded. Then suddenly there was a jolt htough her body and she spoke more vigorously. "Where do you have those things from, Scint? And...frankly, I won't do that, sorry. But I'm quite sure that won't work."

Shade's left eye twitched unvoluntarily at the absolutely ridiculous display, followed by a facehoof and a sigh. We want to attract less attention, not more. Seeing that at least Scintillance wouldn't be of much help, the black filly began thinking for herself, trying to imagine what they would have to expect. With a hoof at her chin she contemplated the possibilities for a while, before presenting a thought aloud. Leaving through the window might work. If they're waiting on the platform, they won't see us.

As far as Scint was concerned, his idea sounded absolutely sane. But he had to admit, Shade's plan was a lot less guard-attracting. He commented, "Oh that's definately a better idea. For now on I'm leaving the planning to Shade. he started removing the odd clothing from him, and tieing them in knots making a makeshift rope, while Skylight's question started to hang in his head. "Well at least I should make these useful somehow. Oh, and I got these from... from... Scint's eyes went wide for an instant and just blanked. I... I have no idea. an awkward silence, later, Scint finished up the rope-thing and started teing one end to the window, though in a rather different knot, if anypony bothered to look. "But, I don't think that matters now! we got rope, we got plan, and... now we just gotta rait, wight?"

Skylight chuckled sighingly, more because she was giving in than thinking it really funny. Giving in on trying to understand Scinitllance.
"Shade's idea is way better. And I will go along. I just want to point out that I'm not sure if we really won't be seen. Maybe if we climb out of the window on the not-platform-side?"
That idea occured suddenly her mind. If they'd climbed out of the window onto the platform, any pony just need to look aside and will see them. Even if it wasn't a guard she was quite sure that three filly-foals climbing out of a train window will attract attention. So the only other possibility was the other side.
"Of course, it is dangerous if another train's arriving at that moment, but..." But since when was Shade afraid of that?

Scint proudly sat and watched his rope maintain its weight. of course it would hold, it was made by the power of friendship (which meant magic or something) "Then I'll just have to hope another train doesn't come in."

Sky watched them doing their tests. Luckily, she wouldn't need to climb on the rope, praised be her wings. Apart from that she really was unable to do so now.
She leaned back in her seat. "So...does anypony know how long until we arrive?"

"An hour, I think", Shade said, looking out of the window. They were currently on the way down the mountain, and Ponyville was still in sight. Until they entered a tunnel, and there was little else than darkness to see. With the view gone, Shade turned to the catastrophe. "Lance! Have you ever camped before?"

Lance gave a short sigh upon hearing his hour-long wait... he was never good as waiting. but he did suddenly beam a lively "Nope!" to answer Shade's question. "But I have always wanted to roast marshmallows over a campfire! But I'm guessing that's not on he agenda today now is it. And if it is I came prepared!" the foal chimed as he pulled up a packet of marshmellows, securely clamped between his grinning teeth.

Lance still couldn't wrap his head around shade's little conflict with a burgler and surviving, but he dismissed a hought as quickly as he dismissed Shade's comment, "no idea what you're talking about but , I could probably get something to work out of those clothes and some branches if we can find any.
