Hanging around, without a frown, above the ground.

January 2nd, mid day

In the hustle and bustle of Manehatten, there were few things that could still be considered beautiful outside of the Haven Memorial Park, especially on a day like this. The flowers were blooming, the birds were singing, not a cloud could be seen in the sky and Hijinks was hanging upside down on one of her favourite climbing trees. While at first glance Hijinks appeared to be stuck, with her body dangling helplessly by a sturdy branch through a thick coil of rope, she was in fact... kinda sorta stuck. She totally didn't do this to herself to practice her ability to stay upside-down without an escape plan, that would be silly. And while the scene sounds like a cause for concern for most, nopony really lifted a hoof to help her because she seemed to enjoy herself which was evidenced by her smile and laughter, so they let her be.

Despite how fun it was to be upside-down, Hijinks was getting a bit light-headed. "I do not feel well!" She yelled out with a stupid grin on her face.

Today was almost a special day, but this almost special day was more than enough to get this Griffon in a good mood. While walking by the park he had caught himself humming on several occasions which was something he didn't usually do. This caused a few glances to come his way but he ignored them. Even his tail was swaying back and forth in the air with each step he took.

"I do not feel well!"

This voice was loud enough to snap him out of his happy daze. Looking around for the voice he couldn't help but snicker at the sight he saw. A pony who was probably a kid but perhaps younger than himself was hanging upside down from a tree. Although, whoever this was seemed to be...stuck. Shrugging he made his way over to this pony without even trying to hide his smirk.

"What's up?"

Hijinks noticed a voice below her. "That would be me. I am up, see?" She waved her hooves around to make herself more noticeable. She liked the tree but she would appreciate getting down now as her head was icky. "Can you help me get down? I seem to be semi stuck."

Nodding his head a small chuckle escaped from him. "That does seem to be true and I guess I can do my one good deed for the day to help you down. But you should be careful, someone could've easily taken your things or even drawn over your face in a position like this." Grinning at the pony he flared open his wings and began to flap them until he was off the ground. Searching for the problem he let out a sigh and began to lift the pony gently until they were unstuck. When that happened he would set them back on the ground.

Hijinks felt two claws grab hold of her as she felt the pressure on her leg fade away. She realized that the voice from earlier was a griffy and he was helping her! As the two reached the ground, Hijinks unscrambled herself from the mess of rope and pounced on the griffon, cuddling him and burying her face deep within his super soft feathers. "Mmm, you so soft and cuddly I could die!" She said still cuddling the griffon.

If Kioni wasn't taller and not as sharp when it came to surprises like these then he would've been on the ground as this pony pounced on him. Staggering a little he managed to keep his ground but was definitely in shock and had a slight blush on his face. Blinking a few times to try and wake himself up he chuckled slightly but tensed up a little, really it was just natural reflexes and training that made him do this, when being a thief you always had to expect everything. Although he didn't hug this pony back he didn't break away either. "U-Umm...thank you for thinking so."

Hijinks continued her cuddle, happy that she was not pushed away again. "I know so! All you griffons are so floofy but you're the record holding griffy for not pushing me away yet!" Maybe it was a bit weird hugging random griffons but Hijinks always had a thing towards birds. They were so cute and she wanted to pet them but they always flew away from her for some reason.

Hijinks finally decided to break away from the hug and return to all fours. "You can be my new friend! My name is Princess caramel of the chocolate kingdom as you can see by my crown!" She pointed at the non-existent crown on her head. "What's your name?"

Okay so this pony was an odd one at that considering she tried to hug other Griffons before which could've resulted in...consequences depending on the Griff, the only reason he was sorta okay with this was because he was surprised and it felt nice to get a hug.

When the pony broke away he was sporting a small smile, and the blush did go away. Although that smile turned into laughter at her tittle and the fake crown she had. But he could tell that she was indeed younger than him. Being a friend was something that required more time to know her though.

Still smiling at her he shrugged but nodded his head. "Sure i'll be your friend, and my name is Kioni by the way." Smirking and deciding to play along he did a quick little bow and even flared his wings open as he spoke. "Its nice to meet you Princess Caramel of the Chocolate Kingdom, and i'm honored to be in your presence."

Hijinks swelled with pride knowing that her kindness and fairness in ruling over her kingdom was recognized. "Why thank you!" she said in her formal dressy voice. "Shall we partake in the traditional tea party? I have the latest exports in 'air tea' from the zebra lands. It is quite nice!" From her bag Hijinks pulled out a plastic pink teacup and offered it to her new friend.

Smiling and chuckling Kioni took the small tea cup from her. "Thank you and i'd love to Princess." Sitting down on his hind legs he took a small 'sip' of the tea. With a happy sigh he gave the Princess a warm smile. "This taste wonderful your highness." Chuckling he began to hum once more and his tail started to sway again as well.

"Well..." Hijinks lifted her hoof to her chin in thought. "I do have this." She said, pulling a bottle out of her bag. "It's a super itchy powder that works with water. Which means it works well with water balloons!" She also pulled out a bag of deflated balloons out of her bag. It's a bag of holding, don't question how much stuff she can pull out of there.

Kioni started to laugh as the filly explained her idea of fun. Giving her a warm smile he shrugged. "That does sound like fun, and even better I could perhaps fly around with you on my back. But that is a maybe, no hard feelings or anything miss, my...profession requires me to be cautious around others. Although you do seem nice though, and if I have your word, then i'll gladly give you a lift." He held out a claw with a smile. "Deal?"

Hijinks took the offered claw with her hoof. "Sure! You can have whatever words you want!" She said while vigorously shaking his claw. "Now I need waters..." She scanned the park for some water until she settled her eyes on a small pond. "Perfect!" She exclaimed, running towards the pond. Ripping open the balloon bag, she began creating an arsenal of water balloons while sprinkling a little bit of itching powder in each one.

"Okay! I'm ready!" She yelled to Kioni with a bunch of water balloons on hoof.

Chuckling Kioni lowered his claw back to the ground after shaking with her. He watched her curiously as she filled up the water balloons with the itching powder. When she was all finished he made his way over.

Chuckling he lowered himself to the ground. "Then hop aboard Princess, just make sure to hold on tight." He smiled at her and awaited for her to get on his back before taking off into the skies.

Hijinks wasted no time on jumping up on Kioni. After a few seconds of struggling and a few more on getting comfortable, she was ready. "Kay! Let's go wreak some havoc!" She giggled.

"As you wish your highness!" Grinning he flared open his wings and began to flap. Once he got high enough he shot off into the sky. Ascending about 50 or so meters. Looking back at his passenger he smirked. "This should be high enough. You okay back there Princess?"

Hijinks felt the burst of adrenaline as she was taken in to the air. It felt good to be flying again. Once they were high enough, she spotted her first victim: A grumpy looking stallion walking mindlessly along the road.

"I'm okay and I'm ready to fire! Watch this!" She hollered a war cry as she dropped the water balloon, taking into account the wind and math and blah blah blah, what mattered is that it looked like it was going to hit from where Hijinks was sitting. And hit it did. The stallion felt anger as he was drenched with water which was soon replaced with confusion and panic as his skin began to itch. From where Hijinks was sitting, she could see that after a measly five seconds after impact, the stallion was on the ground rolling around in itchy anguish. It would probably last a few minutes but for the stallion it would feel like hours.

"Again!" Hijinks cheered.

The two would waver in the air a little as Kioni tried his best to not burst out laughing. He wouldn't want anything to happen to his new acquaintance. Although this task was very hard to accomplish. The Stallion squirming on the ground was just to funny. Usually he wasn't one to cause a big scene like this but it was almost his birth day and this wasn't a bad way to celebrate it either.

After finally calming himself down to where he would be able to fly straightish again. "You got it!" He said with a chuckle, circling around in the sky to try and help her find another target.

Hijinks continued dropping balloons on ponies, preferably on solitary ponies without wings. But as with all good things, it eventually came to an end when Hijinks ran out of ammunition. "That was my last one, Konny!" She said after a bout of laughter.

After calming down a bit, Hijinks sighed contently as she looked up into the sky, appreciating the feeling of wind on her mane. She was interrupted by her stomach growling. "Oops. I forgot to eat breakfast again, didn't I?" She did that sometimes. "Where can eat foods?" She asked Kioni, prodding him a bit to make sure he was paying attention.

When she was finished Kioni had to find a building to fly down on. Landing on the roof he wasted no time on rolling over to his side where he then burst out laughing. "Y-Your hilarious!" He told the mare through breathless pants as he tried to regain all of his lost air.

After he had calmed down enough to where he was only chuckling he rolled over his back and turned to look at her. "Hungry huh... Well, to be honest I was planning on picking some up earlier before I met you. Just a little something to enjoy myself since tomorrow is my birthday. But i'll gladly grab some things for you Princess. This was a fun day and its the least I can do." He gave her a genuine smile before standing up back up again as he awaited for her answer.

"It's your birthday tomorrow?!" Hijinks gasped, forgetting about how hungry she was. Suddenly, she hopped off Kioni and started jumping up and down around him. "Yay! Birthday party! Birthday Party! Birthday party!" Hijinks came to a stop in front of Kioni and pushed her face up really close to his so that her snout was touching his beak. "You are inviting me to your party, right?" She asked, though she doubted he would say no.

Kioni blinked a few times and blushed slightly afterwards. Nodding his head the best he could despite having her snout touching his beak. "Yeah i'm inviting you...if you wanna come of course. Umm...I have to grab a few things first though. In fact...you seem cool enough, you can even come with me to go and grab some things, but you have to promise to keep quiet about this alright?"

Hijinks zipped her mouth and locked it with an imaginary key. "Mmmph!" She nodded in agreement. She then jumped up on Kioni's back again. "Let's go!" She shout-whispered.

He nodded and flared his wings open once again "Hang on." Taking off into the skies again he looked back and smiled at his new friend while heading over to his first target he had spotted earlier. "So here's the plan. We're gonna visit a few shops and if you can keep the owner distracted long enough then I can pick up stuff. You want any kind of specific food for me to pick up, Princess?"

Kioni chuckled. "Well it wouldn't be a party without sweets now would it!?" 'So probably add a few apples for her...I wonder if I can find any fish... Fish is so good.' As his mind started to wander about the idea of finding fish he had a goofy grin on his face as he continued to fly towards the nearest store.

Breaking out of his daze about fish he nodded his head back at Princess "Yes of course!" Flying for about another minute the shop that he saw earlier comes into view. Landing down a bit aways from it he crouches so that she could easily get off his back. "Alright Princess, just distract them long enough for me." Giving her a small grin he started to move away to get in a more sneaky spot to take the things he wanted and waited for her to start the distraction.

Hijinks hopped off Kioni and trotted up to the store owner. "Oh haaaiii!" she greeted the brown stallion cheerfully. "Have you seen my mommy pass through here?" She asked the owner, dragging his attention away from his store while Hijinks gave a lengthy description about her mom including irrelevant stuff such as how she likes to put flowers in her mane sometimes. Hopefully, this would hold his attention away from his merchandise.

Seeing that the store owner was being distracted Kioni began to make his way over to the merchandise. Looking over what the store keeper had he noted that this wasn't a bakery, but had things like bread, apples, carrots and other assorted fruits and veggies. Moving quickly he grabbed a few apples and a loaf of bread. After taking these things he started to move away, once he was far enough he whistled over at Princess before walking away again while keeping the items he stole tucked away.

As the store owner shook his head, Hijinks pretended to act dissapointed. "Oh, okay. If you see her tell her that I was looking for her!" She gave a friendly wave before running off to join Kioni.

"Watchu get?" She asked after reaching Kioni. "Did you get the yummy?"

Smiling Kioni pulled an apple and handed it to Princess. "Got about four more of those and a loaf of bread. He didn't have much to be honest but we'll find something at the next shop."

Thinking for a moment he sat down and moved the loaf of bread and the remaining four apples into a black sack he had. "We need to find a bakery next to get those sweets and cake. You know where any might be Princess?"

Hijinks stopped to think. "Sweets and cakes have become luxury in this city, specially after the riots. If there's one to be had, it'd be on main street where most of the big shops are. It might be hard to steal a big cake from there though... But if you want distraction... I got distraction." She said, pulling out what looked like a stick of TNT from her bag.

He stopped dead in his tracks and almost tripped due to what Princess pulled out. He didn't know much about explosives but he very well knew what that was. Giving her a nervous and cautions look he took the time to understand what she was planning to do.

"Okay first...do you know how to use that? Second, we're going to have to disappear as quickly as possible once that goes off. Third...some people might get hurt. But...you probably know that already." Tapping one of his talons on his beak he thought about this. Shaking his head with a sigh he gave her a small smile. "Just don't get caught or get yourself hurt and stay safe. Once I grab the cake i'll come and pick you up and i'll take you to a place i've been using as a hideout."

Hijinks put the explosive back into her bag for safekeeping. "Of course I know how to use it! Now take us to Mainstreet!" Quickly scoffing down her apple and tossing away the core, she jumped back up on Kioni's back, barely able to contain her excitement. "Oooh this is gonna be good."

As the two got close he looked back at her and hovered in the air. "Where do you want me to put you Princess?"

Rolling his eyes playfully at her he gave a nod and continued to fly until he spotted the bakery. He began to descend until he was just hovering a few feet from the ground which should be enough for her to jump down without hurting herself. "Alright Princess, i'm just going to use the explosion as the signal to move in and grab the cake." Giving her a small smile he gave her a quick wave with his claw and moved away to go and wait.

Hijinks jumped off Kioni, landing on all four hooves. She trotted over to the building next to the bakery and found a window. Happy that nopony was looking or that nopony was inside that room of the building, Hijinks dumped a few sticks of TNT in there connected by a long fuse. Lighting the fuse, she began casually walking away from the bakery. It was only a few seconds later that she heard the beautiful sound of an explosion and the screaming and panic that came with. All the ponies near the blast radius either ran away or came to look at the damage. The owner of the bakery seemed more concerned of another fire as he ran out to see if there were any flames.

It took a moment for Kioni to focus on the task at hand, but when he did he made a dash for the back entrance of the store while doing his best to avoid the crowds of ponies and their eyes, plus the fire. Once inside he grabbed the nearest cake there was and exited the same way he came in. Doing his best to balance it he took off into the air and began to search for any signs of Princess.

Hijinks smiled as she watched the panic from a distance. She turned her eye to the sky and saw Kioni with the package. She tried moving to an isolated place on the street and started waving at him.

As he continued to look around a sigh of relief escaped as he saw Princess waving up at him. Chuckling to himself he began to fly down towards her while still making sure the cake was safe.

Landing next to her he grinned. "No time to waste so we better split! Think you can hold onto the cake?" He asked setting it on the ground and moving over to her.

"Sure!" Hijinks replied. She went over to the cake then picked it up. As she was about to get on Kioni again, she stopped to think about how this would work. "Umm... This is difficult..." She set the cake down again. "Can't you carry it with those claws of yours while flying?" She asked.

"I can, but if I go to fast, which is something we might need to do before they have enough sense to call someone about this, then the cake might get a bit messed up." He tapped a claw against his beak before looking at the cake. "Alright. It might be best to just fly slow then Princess but we should really hurry though!" He waits for her to get on before picking the cake back up and flying into the sky again.

"A filly and a Griffon who have a cake from a recently blown up bakery." He said with a slight chuckle. Making sure that she was hanging tight he began to flap slowly to make sure the cake didn't get messed up. "We need anything else Princess or are we good?"

Nodding he began to make his slow descent over to his hideout!

By the time they made it the sky was dark and where his destination was had a run down building that was boarded up. Landing on the ground gently he started to walk towards it while carrying the filly on his back and did his best to try and balance the cake on his head. "I think this place got closed down after the riots ended, so I made a small little hideout." He explained to Princess while moving a board out of the way which allowed him to slip through with everything he was carrying.

The inside of the building was dark and had a few broken windows, there were a few things scattered around the ground. A flight of stairs led up to the second floor where a door would lead up to the roof, after some climbing of course.
