The Map
- Spoiler:
Manehattan
- Spoiler:
- The fourth city to be taken by the griffons, it has been held for almost a decade. The battle left many parts of the city destroyed; buildings half torn down, streets in rubble. Still the city remains inhabited, by all manner of ponies, zebras, and griffons. The city is 22.7 square miles separated into six districts. Before the war, this was the center of wealth, business, and power in Equestria, with over one million ponies living in and around the area. Today, barely 500,000 ponies live here, in the areas not too devastated by the war. The Central House rules this region, under the direct control of Commander Feliks. A perpetual cloud layer overcasts every day and the air is cold most times. Though torn by war, many monuments and skyscrapers still stand, serving as a reminder of what was lost, and what might one day be achieved.
Downtown: Central lower part, below the Park, bleeds into the southern most part residential districts on both sides.
- Spoiler:
- This area was once a center for commerce and business. Today many skyscrapers still stand, most half as tall as they used to. They tower over the streets, casting and almost eery shadow as the sun passes through the broken buildings. They also offer perfect hiding spots for griffons. Broken glass, and metal are piled on the sides of the broken street, its cement cracked and shattered. Still many ponies set up shop around here, all be it shady brothels, bars, or drug houses. This district is not to be trotted lightly. Many shady ponies and griffons alike stalk the back alleys night and day, looking for any potential victims. Coincidentally, in the center is where the griffon HQ is, surrounded by barbed wire and sentries.
Mainstreet: A large Street that goes through Central Park, Downtown, and the Industrial District. Runs the entire length of the city.
- Spoiler:
- This was once the backbone of Manehatten. Theaters, big stores and five star restaurants used to run its length. Now, it is a broken mess of debris, squalor, and danger. Most of the buildings are abandoned, with the exception of a few groups of legitimate stores and bars, mostly grouped near the north side of the park. Metal debris and glass litter the sides in large piles, almost blocking any access to more than a few roads. This still serves as the main access way into, out of, and through the city. Homeless and wounded ponies sit on the sides, begging for what little they can get from any who are too generous. In the northern part of Main Street, the northern most part of the city, it is relatively nice; not much debris and a lot of businesses. The farther south one moves, the worse things becomes, through the Park, Downtown, and eventually into the Industrial District. One will find the environment less and less inviting.
Griffon HQ: Centered in Downtown, in the old City Hall building.
- Spoiler:
- When the griffons took the city, the first thing they did was set up an HQ. They leveled the adjacent buildings and set up barbed wire fencing and sentry posts. This serves as the heart of the griffon occupation in this region, which included the surrounding area, the ruins of Ponyville, and the Everfree forest. Here Feliks lives and works, managing the work camps, sending reports to the Tsar, and planning how to stop the Rebellion. Here is also where the barracks for the soldiers are located, in addition to the supply houses and armory. It is heavily guarded at all times, day and night, with nopony being allowed within fifteen feet, unless a special event is occurring.
Undermarket: The sewers and subway tunnels that run the length of the city.
- Spoiler:
- The area known as the Undermarket is where the rebellion calls home. It is an expansive labyrinth with markets, homes, and traps where ponies friendly t the rebellion can live in relative peace from the griffons. It reeks of filth and decay, but most learn to live with it. The ponies have even built homes out of debris collected. The Undermarket has many access points throughout all the districts, and have so far remained completely hidden from the griffons. Here the rebel ponies plan their espionage and attacks on the griffons, hoping t one day take the city back. If one does not know how to get to the Undermarket, they will quickly get lost, or killed, as there are hundreds of miles of tunneling. Those that are deemed trustworthy, are shown the signs that reveal the safe way into the Undermarket.
Central Park: A large Park in the center of the city, with the residential districts to the side and Downtown to the south.
- Spoiler:
- When the city was first built it was decided to put in a park, so that the inhabitants would be able to enjoy nature without having to leave the city. Today, most of the park is dead, mostly around the edges. Main street travels through the middle, and for the most part, the park looks just as it did before. A group of ponies have been working to get the park looking like it did before the war, and have been doing a great job clearing the debris and giving life back to the dead plants. At this time over three quarters of the park is clean and relatively healthy. There are a few small ponds, large overhanging trees, and plenty of grass for ponies and griffon alike to come and relax. In the day, there is little to no conflict here, and is a sanctuary for all. At night, even with the curfew law, the park turns into a cesspit of crime and violence, with many pony and griffon stalkers looking to prey on any victims too stupid to go indoors after dark.
East Residential District: Along the central eastern border of the city, with parts touching the water.
- Spoiler:
- This area is filled with apartment buildings and hotels, for ponies who used to come on vacation or live in the city. After the war, this is where most of the ponies congregated to, squeezing themselves into the still standing apartment buildings and hotels. This has become a pool of squalor, disease, and suffering. Most ponies who can’t own their own business or work in the camps, scavenge around the area, looking for anything they can trade for food or water. Most ponies have to pack into the same from, six or seven at a time. For those lucky enough to have and hold onto their own living arrangements, have to be constantly on the lookout, or else they may find that when they return, there are five ponies who have moved in. Most everything in this district that is not being used is fair game. Still, many ponies manage to hold their own, either out of respect, or fear.
West Residential District: Along the central western border of the city, bleeding out into the surrounding areas.
- Spoiler:
- This area was largely filled with flats, townhouses, or duplexes. The streets are all lined with them. It used to be that the city was fairly obvious and the houses just stopped and the country started. Today, many of the outlying buildings are all but piles of rubble. The ponies that live here are much less grabby and communistic than those in the eastern district. Indeed it could be said that this is the nicer neighborhood. As it moves closer to the city, the buildings get larger, and generally less friendly. Most of the ponies that live here are families, or relatively “rich” and “powerful”, if there is such a thing for ponies anymore.
Industrial District: An all but destroyed section in the south of the south, half of it lined with water, with the Downtown District to the north.
- Spoiler:
- The Industrial District used to be the heart beat of the city. While downtown had the banks, market, and money, this district had the production. It manufactured carriages, train parts, building parts, and ship parts. Most of the ponies who worked in the city worked in the industrial district. Its harbor housed both sea ships and airships, importing supplies and exporting the goods. Today, it is mostly destroyed. Most of the warehouses and factories are nothing more then shells, housing rubble and debris. Of the ones that are still standing, most are completely abandoned. This makes the district the ideal spot for scavengers and looters. However, recently many of the griffon guerrillas have chosen to make this their place of residence until their contracts end, making this district a place to be feared. Most that try to loot it are killed, but those that return, usually return with plenty of bounty.
Outskirts: The area about fifty miles outside the city limits, mostly old farms converted to work camps.
- Spoiler:
- The area outside the city is primarily made up of rolling hills, with mostly dead grass or wheat grass washing along it. Work camps scatter the landscape, mostly where there were any farms. Griffons patrol the skies routinely, but never much, making it relatively safe for ponies to wander around. The Everfree forest touches the land to the north west, and the ruins of Ponyville lie due west. Canterlot can be seen from some of the higher hills on less cloudy days. The air is alot colder here, and the wind is almost constantly blowing. Oddly enough, the scene is rather calming.
Work Camps: The camps were ponies work for a meager profit farming or crafting.
- Spoiler:
- These camps are everywhere in Equestria. Their mission is to farm food, herd livestock, and manufacture goods to be shipped back to the Griffon Kingdoms. Ponies can volunteer to work at specific camps, earning wages depending on their job and skill level. The security around most of these is mild, with a few hundred griffons per camp to watch over thousands of ponies. The ponies work eight to twelve hour days, getting paid enough to live, and adequate breaks during the day. The ponies required to work here are ones that are guilty of misdemeanors, but not considered threats. These ponies do not get paid and are forced to work much longer and sleep in the camp, until their time is up.
Labor Camps: Camps where ponies, and griffons, are slaves mining and crafting dangerous things.
- Spoiler:
- These camps are hidden among the land, reserved for the worst criminals, war prisoners, and political enemies of the Tsar; griffons and ponies alike. Here the conditions are horrid; the workers are treated like slaves, they work brutal hours with little to no breaks, and are given just enough sustenance to keep working. These camps are heavily guarded, and kept secret from the public of both kingdoms. The Tsar has reports on the every day, as their job is to collect dangerous resources, like mining for coal or precious metals, key parts to his secret projects. It is in his best interest to keep these camps secret, or else the public of both kingdoms may start to become weary of the Tsars rule.
