-middle of the night-

It was in the middle of the night. Rusty begun to speak in her sleep. "....We just have to add theese hear.........you can start it now dad........" Rusty rolled from side to side. " Whats that sound.......... Oh no..." Then she gots louder " AAargh.... dad? daad? get awake dead. get awaaaake. no...no..NOOOOOO" Rusty nearly screamed. Then woke up. sweat was all over her face. She put a hoof on her damaged eye.

Mega was jolted away once she heard the screams coming from Rusty, looking around in a mild panic before collecting herself enough to get her glasses on and look over with more focused eyes. "What happened? Ith everything okay?" She asked in a much softer tone than she had been speaking in hours earlier, the sleep she had gotten relieving her stress enough to remove the headache she had. "That thounded pretty bad..."

[Rusty Bolt]

Rusty climbed out of the bed. "It was nothing, just the past which outruns me sometimes." then she walked into the kitchen taking a glass of water. "better go back to sleep, i need you fit for tomorrow." She tooks a few sips from her water. Then she walked back to the bed.

Mega sat up on her bed once she heard Rusty's words, shaking her head lightly. "That thounded like it wath really bad... Are you thure it wathn't anything you want to talk about?" She asked, looking genuinely concerned. "I know I thaid thome mean thingth to you earlier, but that wath juth becauthe I wath really annoyed and angry... I'm not really anymore, tho I'm willing to help."

[Rusty Bolt]

"I don´t know if you can help me, but i can tell you about my past" Rusty said as she sat down at her bed. "My father was the only person in my life, i really cared about. He was the one teaching me all the mehcanic and crafting things. Two years before the war started, me and my dad moved to the griffon empire, because he got a job in one of the greatest griffon factories. We lived in the mire and we were very happy with our lives. Then the war started. at fisrt my father was spectic, but then understood the griffons and we started to build weapons for the war. The money was well, we got. I guess it was in the third year of the war when this accident happened. We were working on a very secret project named "Flying judgement". It was a huge Airship. Full with siege weapons and space for troops. if the ship would have become a success, the war would have anded way earlier. But we had our Problems with the engines. Theoreticly they should have had enough power but somehow it didn´t worked. We were at fixing one of the Engines which broke through the tests, as a critical malfunction apeaeared. The whole engine exploded. The metal pars flew around and hitted everyone who was in near. I lost my eye and the ability to fly. But the wors was, I lost my father. His chest was pierced by a huge metal scrap. He was instantly dead. It took a few month before i was able to work again. My griffon friends and co-workers helped me through this time. When i returned to the factory, the project was already cancelled. Well. and thats my story." A few tears escaped rusty.

Mega stayed quiet while the story was told to be polite, slowly closing her eyes as the fatal accident was mentioned. Slowly moving a hoof up, she pushed her glasses upward slightly so she could wipe a few tears away. "I'm tho thorry that you had to watch thomething so horrible happen..." She replied in a quiet tone as she looked down at the floor. She kept her comments about how the project was probably set up for failure from its size to stay polite and avoid angering her. "I can't really relate... I wath kicked out of my home for getting my engineering cutie mark and refusing to do my parentth buthineth, tho I wathn't ever really clothe to them..."

[Rusty Bolt]

" I think its better to never be close to someone, then it did not hurt if you loose him." Rusty said while she lied herself down. "And now lets sleep agin, we have much work tomorrow." Rusty closed her eyes, hoping not to dream again of this dark day.

"That'th far from the truth. I thpent ten yearth all by mythlf in a mathement with nopony to talk to. I hated it." Mega replied simply, staying in her seated position rather than laying down. "And I don't think that ith a good idea... You have all thothe feelingth inthide of you. It'th unhealthy to keep them in."

[Rusty Bolt]

"I never said, i like to be alone. i really enjoy conversations and stuff, but i don´t want to get a deep relationship to someone again. I couldn´t stand the pain." Rusty said.

"I underthand... Being hurt so much becauthe of thomething that happened in and inthant..." Mega replied sadly, having to wipe another tear from her eyes as she thought about it. "I'm thorry for any of the mean thingth I thaid to you earlier... I didn't mean it..."

[Rusty Bolt]

"Its okay, i mean i captured you here. i guess its normal to say such things. and also ai wan´t the nicest one too." Rusty said. she was a bit surprised about the words of the mare. She was so nice and kind, even if she was her prioner.

Mega slowly looked to the side as her ears drooped down. "No... I did break thome of the new lawth... Even if I think they're unfair and unjutht, I am thill a criminal according to you... I'm juth finally paying for it I gueth." She replied sadly. "I never try to hurt anypony...with wordth or acthionth... Tho, I'm tho very thorry..."

[Rusty Bolt]

"Maybe you´re a criminal in my eyes, but i guess in the eyes of Griffon fighting ponies you´re a hero. Somehow i can understand those ponies. The griffons overtake your land and then make theese rules to humiulate you. Somedays i don´t know which side are the bad or good. I guess its in the eye of the beholder. The biggest reason for me to work for the griffons is the money. The won the war, they have the recources. I guess if the Ponies would have won, i wouldnt capturing ponies today.....or build devices to kill them." Rusty was really confused by her own mind. The griffons, which side she always was on, now didn´t seem like the good guys anymore.

"Goodneth or evilneth ith all relative to where you are. It'th not a gauge of how good or bad either ith, it'th about who you thare beliefth with more." Mega replied simply as she did her best to keep her composure. "I had a happy and good life in thith thity before the war happened, and now look where I am... Taking thcrapth from the trath juth tho I can build thomething worthwhile... Of courth I'm going to hate them."

[Rusty Bolt]

"Well i don´t hate both sides. The griffos were always my 'friends' but no pony has done something against me. I guess its a matter of education and envoirenment. I lived with them and I was told to respect them. Of course i´m not this happy about their methods and the war. but at leas it saves me a good job." Rusty said, realizing she never thought this deep about all this war stuff.

"Well, I wouldn't thay that I hate all griffonth. If one came up to me with a friendly hi and wanted to be my friend rather than eat me, I'd give them a chanthe. It really ith only the military oneth tthat try to hurt everypony that I don't like, for obviouth reathonth." Mega replied calmly, turning her head to look over at Rusty after a moment. "I juth don't get all of thith war thuff... Whenever any other nathion had any troubletth, they juth requethed help from the printhetheth. I don't get why they couldn't have juth done that..."

[Rusty Bolt]

"I guess its because of their pride. Griffons are very strong, and to ask for help would sound weak i guess. So to not loose their honor they attacketd and so showed their strenght. Its silly when i tell it like this. but i guess its just this." rusty replied

"I think it would actually have been more honorable to requetht help, it thowth that you have humility, you know?" Mega asked simply as she reached her forelegs forward to stretch out her stiff back. "How doeth attacking a nathion that hath been completely friendly to you for ageth thow any kind of honor?"

[Rusty Bolt]

"Yeah, but it wasn´t my decisiom. I guess the griffons had their reasons....or even not. But what happened can´t be changed. And trying to change the situation now, lead many ponies to dead. So i will not say a word and build what they want, to keep me alive i guess." Rusty said to megabyte. A small hate against griffons started to grow inside her.

"Oh, pleathe don't think I wath trying to blame you for anything. I know you're juth employed by them." Mega replied, just to make sure she hadn't said the wrong thing on accident. "And you're right. There'th no way to change the patht, but I'm not going to thop fighting when I can. I can't juth watch idly while a pony getth eaten up or thomething worthe."

[Rusty Bolt]

"Sure i am just an employee, but i build the weapons to kill you guys. I´m responsible for so much death and pain. I even had my fun while killing these thiefs last night. Its like theres a dark side in me. Can you understand it?" Rusty asked. She was total torn between the two sides.

Mega slowly closed her eyes as she listened to the words of her fellow pegasus. "You juth built thothe becauthe you were paid to do tho." She replied, opening up her eyes again to look at her once more. "In thith time, everypony ith bound to be a bit more violent than they normally would be. I admit that killing a thimple thief might have been a bit too much... But I don't blame you if you felt threatened by them."

She gave Rusty a comforting smile, hoping to help her open up farther. "If you could go back, would there be anything you would do differently? I know you can't, but talking about thingth can help you feel better, you know?"

[Rusty Bolt]

"If i could go back with the things i know yet, i would never move to the griffon kingdom. I would have worked as an mechanic for the ponies. They´re weak, so they would have needed machines and weapons which make the stronger. But the past can´t be hanged and so i stuck here in my workshop, building weapons for killing ponies. I would quit, if there would be an equal option. with equal advantages and live quality." rusty said. She wondered if it was the other mares will, to change her.

"Well, I would be lying if working for my thide would give you the thame kind of advantageth. I juth do it becauthe that ith what feelth right to me. But everypony ith different." Mega replied simply. "And I know there ith no way to change the patht, but I wath theeing if I could get thome of thothe feelingth out in the open. Juth becauthe we're on the oppothite thideth of thith whole conflict, doethn't mean that I won't help thomepony who could need help in thome way."

[Rusty Bolt]

"and thats my problem. I´m accustomed to have all this stuff i need, and also to build griffons specific weapons. I need the option to get what i need. If you could manage to get this resuplies i would come with you instantly. But i guess thats impossible. and i also would have to live incognito. I couldn´t stand this pressure." Rusty said as she thought about leaving the griffons seriously.

Mega slowly moved a hoof up to her glasses as a small, devious smile grow onto her features. "Who thayth you have to give up the thupplieth to join uth?" She asked, letting the question linger for a long while to allow it to possibly sink into the mind of Rusty.

[Rusty Bolt]

Rusty first didn´t know what the mare meant, but then she got it."Oh you mean...No, no its to dangerous. If they find out, i´m fucked. they will kill me, and i guess not fast and painess. I can´t do that." Rusty said in a deniing voice.

"I do thuppothe that ith true. They would get curiouth after a while..." Mega replied simply as she put a hoof to her chin. She could tell by her voice that Rusty did seem interested in turning, at least somewhat. "Maybe, order a little more than you truly do need to make what they tell you to? You could make a little thockpile."

[Rusty Bolt]

"Yeah i could do this, but it wouldn´t last forever. I need my resuplies. I can´t work without the griffon founding. Its impossible. I guess theres no way for me going with you. sorry" Rusty said.

"I have been able to work with juth thavenged metal and thingth, but I gueth I've juth gotten uthed to working with thothe kindth of condithionth." Mega replied with a shrug of her shoulders. "I'm not going to try and forthe anything onto you of courthe, that wouldn't be the right thing to do. I'm juth theeing that you don't theem too happy working under the griffonth."

[Rusty Bolt]

"Yeah, the griffons are not the nicest to me, but they have the cash." Rusty stood up from the bed and walked over to megabyte. "I realize now, you aren´t a bad pony. You have the curage to be honest and nice, even if you´re captured. You´re a hero to someponies. And you opened my eyes to all this war stuff." Rusty pressed a small button on Megabytes collar. " I feel guilty for capturing you. you´re free now. you should go now."

Mega blinked her eyes a few times in confusion as the collar slipped off of her and fell the the floor. She looked down at it, before up at Rusty. "Thank you..." She said quietly, slowly standing up from the couch. She paused for a moment as she glanced towards the window.

"Maybe I'll thay at leath until morning. A patrol might thee me. It ith a long way from here to home." She stated simply while keeping her gaze out at the night. She turned her attention back to Rusty after a bit, giving her a smile. "You may be working for the other thide, but I don't hate you. You're juth doing what you're told to. I can tell you're really a good pony deep down."

[Rusty Bolt]

"Thanks, the last pony i talked with, said i´m a soulless monster, but i guess that came trough the fact i killed her friend and broke her horn....... Now i feel even mre bad." Rusty felt like she was the most bad pony in the world. "Sure you can stay here for the night. But you have to make sure no one sees you when you leave. if the griffons see i had one of the most searched ponies in my workshop, and let her escape, they will kill me." Rusty walked over to her bed and lied down.

Mega returned to the small bed she had been given and sat down once Rusty laid back down in her own bed. "Don't worry, I won't do anything to pothibly get you in trouble with them." She replied in a sincere tone. She removed her glasses and carefully set them down on a nearby table before slowly laying back down, able to relax easier knowing that the collar was off herself. "And you juth made a bad mithake. You wouldn't do that again, if you had the choithe, right?"

[Rusty Bolt]

"of course not. you opened my eyes. i guess they were just ponies who tried to make ends meet. I hope the mare which i let go is well. i mean ofcourse she has no horn anymore but anyway." Rusty tried to imagine how the mare would live now. "I have not the biggest knowledge of unicorns, but do you know if someone could fix a unicrons horn? i mean i have her horn still here and i would like to give it back. but i don´t know where she is and i guess a message of giving it back to her would seem like a trap." Rusty said with a sound of regret in her voice.

Mega curled herself up as she tried her best to get to sleep, keeping herself awake as long as Rusty needed her to be. "I think a unicorn'th horn can grow back, but it would take a long time. I'm not thure though." She replied, humming lightly to herself. "But thinthe it doeth theem like a time of bone, you could probably thomehow keep it onto the little bit that might be left and it'll thlowly heal to connect again."

[Rusty Bolt]

"really? that would be good. Can i ask you to try finding this unicorn and giving her the horn back? since i´m stucked in this workshop and i guess she´ll will not be happy to see my face. So would you?" Rusty asked with a hopeful voice.

Mega paused for a moment as the request was made of her, ears slowly folding back. "I could try for you... But I can't go outthide much, becauthe...well, you know why." She replied simply as she continued to relax as best she could. "Maybe I can find thomepony elthe who knowth her though..."

[Rusty Bolt]

"That would be really nice. I know i did not deserve your help. but i´m happy you still will help me. Maybe i can help you too. If you need something out of my workshop, take it. The ponies can need every help. But be aware, i still will build weapons for the griffons." Rusty saide before closing her eyes. "good night, Megabyte" she said before falling asleep.

"Everypony detherveth at leath a little help." Mega replied win a kind voice as she slowly closed her eyes as well.

"And thank you very much. I won't take anything too big though." She stated simply as she continued to relax herself, ruffling her wings a bit as a large yawn escaped her. "Goodnight Ruthy."

-NOV 17 - morning-

Rusty woke up early. She was still had this confusing thoughts in her head. She walked into the kitchen and made brakfast. She tried to be as silent as possible to not wake Megabyte.

Mega slowly stirred from her sleep as the moments ticked by, the uneasy feeling of being somewhere unfamiliar making it hard for the mare to sleep in very long. Fumbling around with a hoof slightly, she soon found her glasses and placed them upon her muzzle so she could see.

"Morning already?" She asked herself, shaking it off as she slowly stood up from her spot and stretched her forelegs out to pop her stiff back. After her usual routine of morning stretches, she slowly cantered about the unfamiliar home with a yawn, spotting the other pony in the kitchen.

"Good morning, Ruthy."

[Rusty Bolt]

"good morning" Rusty replied, while making the breakfast. " I hope you´re hungry, I made a fresh salad for us." Rusty served the salad on the table, teh sat down at it. "So do you kno what you want to take from my workshop yet?" Rusty asked

Mega blinked her eyes a few times in surprise, having expected to just be given her item and kicked out. "Thank you very much, that'th tho kind." She said with a smile growing onto her muzzle, taking a seat at the table to start eating the offered breakfast slowly. "And I wath juth thinking of thomething thmall, like one of your thmaller weaponth maybe. If that would be okay."

[Rusty Bolt]

"Sure, take what you need. take it as compensation for your captivity. I just felel guilty for it. So its okay to take what you need. Maybe i can help the resistence with it , this way." Rusty said while eating her salad. "I hope the ponies will defeat the griffons one day. even if i still build the weapons for the griffons."

Mega's smile only grew wider as she listened to the words of the other pony. She swallowed her bite of the salad before speaking up again. "I can't thay how thankful I am for that. Really." She said while looking up at Rusty with a sincere expression. "I hope I can make it up to you thome day with thomething of my own. One of my thurprithe weaponth in cathe the griffonth ever come for you."

[Rusty Bolt]

"Thanks, but i think my own crossbow is enough for that. But i hope, maybe... i can flee to you if the griffons will kill me, just in case. That would help me more i guess. But till than i have what i need." Rusty said. Never before another pony was this kind to her. she was thankful.

Mega smiled lightly, humming to herself and bringing a hoof to her chin as she thought. "Theelie ith already thuthpected of thingth he hathn't done, tho I can tell you a plathe bethideth the thmith you can go." She replied, taking a small bite of her meal. "I don't uthe it anymore, thinthe Theelie made me move into hith thop, but it ith thill hidden. You can uthe that ath a plathe to run if you need it."

[Rusty Bolt]

"Thanks, i know you have no reason to be nice to my, but you still are. I wish every pony and griffon would be this nice.... Anyway, we should get you out of here before anyone sees you. Don´t think i want to kick you out, but i feel more safe if you´re away." Rusty said, trying to sound nice while saying.

"DOn't worry, I underthand." Mega replied with another smile. She slowly stood back up on her hooves once her breakfast was finished, giving Rusty a nod. "Ath for my hiding thpot, it ith where I wath for the entire eirght yearth of the war and two yearth after that. I wath never found."
