Arrival of a messenger [private]
Year 4, November 14, Afternoon
Now, that looked promising. And on the other hand, it looked as if he was late, and Shade was already gone. Black cloth from her cloak and a sewing needle had been the hints she had left for her friend Apollo, and this weaving mill might be the spot. It definitely looked like a suitable hideout, especially the upper floor that had no official entrance anymore. Only problem, when the pegasus didn't see a sign of a black, cloaked unicorn. He searched for some time, and noticed hoofprints on the floor, but they could have been caused by anypony. Three ponies, if he wasn't wrong. Shade normally preferred staying alone...
It didn't help, he had no clue. The dark blue pegasus limbed around the pipes one more time, his broken left hindleg annoying him badly, but flying was not always possible when he wanted to search this spot properly.

further down the road, behind a one of the old office buildings still mostly intact, a number of griffins had been camping out, though their campfire's flames had died out, only leaving a warm mound of charred wood, generating at least enough heat to keep the griffins surrounding it warm. two fast asleep, the other two keeping watch.
the so-called "watchers" had their mouths working more than their eyes, having a dispute with one another, inaudible from Apollo's location, but noticeable whenever the argument rises.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Nothing, not even something he could interpret as a hint to a new hideout. Maybe it was the wrong spot? He didn't know. With a frustrated snort he left the building, finally able to use his wings properly again, and flew to the next building along the street. He didn't search everywhere but simply passed through, he wouldn't stop until he found something he could connect to the hint he had been given. Or until he found some griffons having a conversation. It was always good to learn a few news, ans so Apollo decided to eavesdrop a little, positioning himself below a window dangerously near to the half-birds, but perfectly suited to understand each and every word.

"-rking off your duties like that!" "well what would you expect, I'm out here watching a HOLE in the GROUND. WHOOPIDIE DOO!" "didn't you even pay attention to to briefing!?" "the briefings never tell me anything, all I care about as what I'm being told the do, and the rest can be dammed to tartarus for all I care! but this!? I don't even think it's worth watching over." "Idiot, a whole griffin patrol assassinated out here, and suddenly there's a hole in the ground, mysteriously covering itself up, right behind the building where one of the bodies was found, and the rest so darn close to it? we're here to make sure whatever fled through here doesn't come back." "Oh..."
The two griffins bellow were clearly on watch, distracted, but their heated argument reached its end. the other two were apparently "napping," presumably to take turns over watch, though the last few rays of sunlight still held over the horizon. with such a dull job, it must've been difficult not to want to doze off, rather than stare at such a ditch. a few shovels were scattered about, suggesting that the griffins had to dig up some of the earth, but there were clear signs of extra revealed earth to say that the hole was larger in width than it currently was. no other griffin seemed to be around... except for the one in the building Apollo was in, revealing himself with a deep voice. "now who are you supposed to be!"

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
A complete griffon patrol assassinated? Well, it could have been Shade, but it also could have been some other pony. With no more knowledge about the circumstances, this didn't help much. And that hole... Why would Shade dig a hole? Why would anypony dig a hole that was possible to flee through? There were much easier ways. A hole didn't sound like Shade. Still, maybe she had been involved, and maybe she had left the weaving mill because of it. Apollo needed more information, and would have continued listening to the conversation, but as fate would have it, he had been too careless. Shade had always critized that about him, and now it had gotten him into trouble. Again. When he looked up to the griffon behind him, he couldn't help but show the hatred he had for the whole kind, especially since they had killed almost all of his friends within only two weeks. He wanted to punch that griffon's beak into his brain, and maybe he would have tried it if he hadn't had another responsibility. It was something he absolutely hated to do, but Shade had to know what had happened, and Apollo always had been the messenger of the group. Unfortunately, he had very little possibilities of escape right now. Outside the window were too many griffons, the way to the inside was only guarded by one. Looked like he would have to attack anyway. Teeth gritted in anger he flapped his wings and thrusted himself forward, following the plan with the beak and the brain for now, but hoping that he could get on the other side and fly away quickly. And hoping that the griffon hadn't noticed the leg that had been kept off the ground.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
The Griffin's movement had matches its body; it certainly tried, but fail to grasp Apollo as he flew past him. before chasing after the Pegasus, he made for the window, and call out "we got a live one, over here!" before he could turn to resume the pursuit, he was called after "A live what!? griffin?" "sunuvuh... IT'S A PEGASUS SPY OR SOMETHING!" and with that, every Griffin on campus woke to the call of combat, one joining the griffin through the window in the indoor-chase, and the remaining three circling around to find their own flanking-positions. the extra moments of stupidity among the feathered fiends granted Apollo a few extra moments to get a head start through the building... bu they were now coming after him, and fast.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Wow, he actually got past. But quickly he noticed another disadvantage of carelessness. He had no clue what way to take in the building! Relying on a pegasus' advantages in agility over griffons, he decided to fly around as wildly as possible and took the next turn to the right, thinking he had entered a dead end first, but at the end of the corridor there was a way to the left as well as to the right. He flew there, took a quick look to the right and saw a griffon. Left was it then. There definitely weren't enough turns. He had to fly straight ahead for too long, the griffons could catch up like this.
Should he risk entering one of the rooms? He had no clue if he was near the outer walls at the moment, every room could be a dead end... BUCK IT! He decided against the risk, now seeing another corridor to the left not too far ahead...

The room Apollo wound up in was quite empty, thankfully, bearing another corridor to lead left, and the rest revealed that he'd reached a corner of the building, with the wall facing the corridor he came from, as well as the door to the right, bearing windows to fly out of. a griffin circled past from outside, and the griffins chasing him turned out to be armed with crossbows... which they fired at him as he raced towards this room.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Apollo burst into the room just in time to see a griffon emerge from another corridor ending here, at the other end of the room. He managed to avoid the bolt coming from there and tried to fly through the window near him, which eventually was more crashing through it when a sharp pain in his right side told him that another bolt from behind had hit and caused him to scream. And the glass would have been there anyway. The few cuts didn't bother him, a broken leg and a bolt sticking out of him were much bigger problems now, and he needed a second to get back on his hooves. Panic was rising as he flapped his wings and had to fight through waves of pain to get and keep himself in the air. It seemed hopeless, but he continued anyway. To the next building, maybe he could hide there... A false hope, he wasn't nearly fast enough anymore.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Scrapper had left the hideout early in the morning, as Shade went to sleep. He had left early, but because of his tendancies to check every single place where dust could collect when he was scavenging, he was gone for a few hours, it was sometime in the evening now. He did feel much more alert, and because of that he heard a lot of commotion while he was scavenging for supplies. Back in the same twin buildings He and Shade went to find Lance, and the same building Shade learned about his 'Problem'. Upon investigating he saw Griffon's armed with crossbows in various areas on the building to his right, and he saw a fleeing Pegasus heading to the building to the left.
"Ugh.. Great. Well, Griffons want him so he must be somewhat important." He sneaked around to the building the Pegasus went in to, with the intention of keeping him alive. Dangerous with all the Griffons around but he had something they didn't.
He entered through the ground floor entrance this time and went just a few meters in when he seen the Pegasus struggling along. He was shot, crossbow bolt. No condition to flee anymore. He quickly went up to the Pegasus and supported him towards a janitors closet, It was the quickest place to put him in such little time. "C'mon mate, No time for questions just get in here and leave this to me. And Be. Quiet." Once the Pegasus was in the closet he shut and pushed a box in front of it to keep it closed. He then looked at both sides of the hallway he was in, they could come from both sides at any time so he made some distance between him and the closet and leaned against the wall on the opposite side. He took his face-mask down and proceeded to drink from the flask he took with him. Waiting.

Two griffins flew in from the same direction Apollo came from, and slowed a little distance from Scrapper "I'm pretty sure that's not the same pegasus we were chasing..." "doesn't matter, just kill him too." one griffin kept that distance, loading his crossbow with his next bolt, and the other wildly charged at Scrapper.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Scrapper heard voices in the direction he had thought they would come from. No time for talking it seemed, at the corner of his sight he seen one charge at him and one stayed still, this could mean anything but he thought quickly.
He remained on his two hind legs as he ran Away from the charging Griffon, simultaneously reaching in to his bag, took out the little shank he used a day couple days ago. He planned on keeping the high speed he was already at to charge back at the Griffons, and to do so, he kicked off of the wall at the opposite end of the corridor from the Crossbow wielding Griffon and was left charging at a great speed towards the other Griffon.
His plan: Slide underneath the charging Griffon while holding the small blade up so that it would cut a neat line on his lower side, then head straight towards to other Griffon to disrupt whatever he was doing.
If that didn't work... Screw it he'd improvise.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Scrapper probably shouldn't have turned back towards the griffin; a head-on charge was exactly what he was hoping for. knowing his techniques, the griffin kept his body low while running, so as to keep his weight forward, as well as kick his full body up for a brief aerial-launch to his target; a rising headbutt of sorts, or a powerful elbow to the chin, or stomach, depending on what comes first.
A slide wouldn't be possible, and a direct hit would prove to be a painful flight either as the mentioned Griffin elbow, or headbutt. if Scrapper does get past the low-running griffin, he'll have he second griffons' crossbow aimed at him, and fired, which may or may not, hit, and land a crippling blow
((OK, so I've noticed I made the mistake of posting with the wrong account. I shall respond to the issue with a careless "whatevs." this is now a hostile takeover. I'm dungeon mastering yo' griffins, so hide yo' mares, hide yo' knifes))

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Scrapper noticed that the Griffon kept a low stance, somehow predicting his plan. But now that its out the window, his favorite part comes in to play; Improvising.
He slowed himself down as he passed the box he used to block the closet and ripped the large lid off of it. He was lucky he didn't have a problem running on his back hooves or this would be a struggle, he continued with the lid on his grip and jumped high enough to go over the charging Griffons head. But low enough as to not hit his own off the ceiling. As he flew over he brought the lid down to try and hit the Griffon in the back of the head, at least to daze him so he had a little more time with his Bolt-firing friend.
He didn't check if he'd hit successfully or not, he brought the large, thick wooden box lid in front of him so it gave him good cover from the Crossbows shot. He was approaching fast and had a shield, the Griffon better think of something fast. or nothing at all, that'll be far more preferable to him.
((Yes, yes. We know Scintsey. Your a plum, so you end up posting like a moron^^ So I will leave my Mares and my Knives where they are thank you!... Wait, what were you planning to do with them if you wanted me to hide them? ))

The griffin Scrapper leapt over took a blow to the face from Scraps' makeshift shield, but it was no daze. The griffin was none more than confused, taking a short while to slow down before turning to see his opponent again, but by then, a good distance between them is already made.
The other griffin, armed with the crossbow was struggling trying to reload the stupid thing "Stupid thing!" he gave up on it, seeing Scrapper coming at him, so he drew his sword, and readied it to slash it vertically at the pony when he came close enough

Scrapper got pretty close before kicking the makeshift shield at the Griffon. He would hopefully have the ability to jump onto the griffons back and stab him in the neck if he was fast-... wait, he was the fastest thing he knew about. It shouldn't be a problem unless that griffon had a skull thinner than normal.
After kicking the lid, he grabbed his shank from his bag and jumped up into the air again, with the intention of landing of his enemies back and stabbing his opponent a little. Though he'd have to get stable first.

(( Behold, a new dungeon master takes control! Shadow is here to lead the griffons to certain death! ))
The griffon had no chance to use his sword as the lid came towards him, more a distraction than anything else, but it worked. He braced himself for the basically harmless impact, and gave Scrapper the time to jump over him. The earth pony landing on him forced the unprepared griffon to the ground, if only for short. He began blindly swinging his sword behind his back to possibly injure his unwanted passenger.
The other griffon meanwhile was storming towards them. The corridor was too narrow for the wingspan of a griffon, but while real flight wasn't possible, he still could use his wings to give himself a good thrust forward as he jumped and swung his sword at Scrapper.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Scrapper grabbed hold of the blindly swung sword and held it still against the Griffon's strength. Taking hold of his shank, he continued to hold the sword still, barely. "Game over. Try again next time!" came out without him even noticing, before he forced the blade into the Griffon's neck. Pulling it out, then stabbing it in again to the point where it was stuck.
He saw the incoming Griffon soldier and jumped backwards off of the Griffons back, he didn't seem to care about his partners safety, and ran around a corner for a few seconds to think of a plan. (Not that those worked all the time anyway)
He found a few shards of glass and a small, broken piece of wood. Not a few days earlier he practiced his little hatchet combination while under a sort of captivity, now he gets to do it again. He gathered the pieces and began combining them, still aware he had little time due to the approaching Griffon. And the less likely chance of the other one still being alive.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
His windpipe - among other things - being sliced open and blocked by the blade, the first griffon went down silently, apart from the thud when he collapsed. His comrade noticed, but didn't seem to care at the moment. Admitting that the pony was a little too fast after his failed attack, he gave his opponent a head start as the griffon took the crossbow from the floor and reloaded it after taking the quiver from his fallen companion. When he was done, he stormed after the pony, turning the corner just in the right moment to see another griffon on the other side come out of another corridor. Perfect!
The other griffon quickly took in the situation, then both of them took cover behind their corners and aimed at the earth pony, who apparently had built some kind of makeshift weapon. It didn't take long for the griffons to shoot.

Scrapper made the finishing touches to his weapon then floored it and rolled to the side. Having two bolts fly over him and towards the Griffons themselves. "Missed me!" He sprinted at the most recent Griffon with his hatchet raised high, ready to swing. He would be there before he had the chance to reload.
Saving the first Griffon as long as he could, letting him see his comrades fall. It could save him some work later on. He didn't even know how many there was, but he knew he could take them on. Self-confidence and full of pride as usual.

Behind their corners, the griffons didn't have to fear to be hit by each other, the bolts harmlessly hit the walls and eventually landed on the ground. Scrapper's movement was registered by both, and while the griffon behind him reloaded his crossbow, the other one held his sword ready to swing it at the pony as soon as he came around the corner.

Scrapper skidded to a stop and put the hatchet in his mouth, using both of his Hoof-Claws to jump into a hole in the ceiling. From there, he could get around well. There were a couple of holes spaced out and windows he could use. It would be stupid for one to go up not knowing where he was.
Now the game, was Cat and Mouse.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
The hoofsteps stopped and were replaced by some other sound for the moment. The pony didn't come. The griffon took a look around the corner and saw his comrade pointing upwards before he finished reloading. The motion was easily understood, and with a smirk a plan took hold. While the griffon with the reloaded crossbow came catching up, the other one spread his wings and ducked low, preparing for strong jump. There was no hole directly above him, but he probably could cause a lot of the upper floor to collapse with enough force. Realizing what his partner was planning, the other griffon put some distance between them again and aimed towards the ceiling, preparing to shoot if a pony was revealed. Then the plan was executed, and the griffon sent himself hurling upwards, ramming the back-plate of his armor against the ceiling, which immediately gained a new spiderweb of cracks, at least where id didn't downright collapse.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
He skimmed across the upper floor, with no sound whatsoever, and climbed down from a window and back to where the Pegasus was hidden. He had heard the floor collapse, they thought he was still up there, he grabbed an old wooden chair with two hooves and sneaked up behind the crossbow wielding Griffon.
With little to no sound he brought it down against the griffons head. If it dazed him enough, he'd grab the Griffons own Crossbow, fire it directly at the other Griffon and disable it permanently.

Dust and Rubble made it hard to see much in the first moments, but when it cleared, there was nothing. "Anything up there?"
"No, can't see him!"
"You search up there, I search down here. Be careful, he's damn..."
He was suddenly interrupted by a stair breaking over his head, leaving him clearly dazed, but also causing him to immediately turn around and swing the crossbow in the general direction and back away with insecure steps. The other griffon noticed and immediately came back, but he was too far away to interfere immediately, still not having found the time to reload his crossbow.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Perfect, he was dazed. Step 2.. he didn't have one, but he saw the small combat knife griffons kept with them in case they needed it. He grabbed it from the Griffon and stabbed it into his leg, that should slow him down. But he needed that crossbow.
He made sure it was facing away from himself and started tugging it from the Griffons talons, it was loaded. He couldn't let it be aimed at him. He hoped he could take it from him before he managed to get his sense back.

The griffon roared in pain and he took another few steps back as he was struck by his own blade. But that only made his grip on the crossbow even harder. Still dazed and incredibly angry he jumped forward when his weapon being tugged at, trying to bury the pony under his weight, and possible get his beak into his flesh.
It was a bad moment to attack for the other griffon, he might as well hit his comrade, and so he quickly went behind the two struggling fighters to hinder the pony from backing away now.

Scrapper had his hatchet in his mouth the whole time, not that either Griffon had been paying attention. Holding the griffon back by the head, he shouted, "AH! Screw it! Just die already!" He grabbed the hatchet with his other hoof and drove it into the Griffons neck, back in, and out again. 4 times. Covering himself in the Griffons blood. The Griffon was using instinct to attack him because he was dazed, he couldn't have seen it coming regardless of what he did.

YOU LITTLE BASTARD!
Announcing his attack like this maybe wasn't the best idea, but seeing his comrade killed simply made him shout at the pony as he rushed in and swung the sword diagonally downwards from left to right, and not losing any time to attack again if he should miss. In his anger he held nothing back, his strikes were strong and fast, but somewhat poorly coordinated.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Scrapper was already pushing the body off of him when he heard the screaming behind him. He was still on the floor, he grabbed the Crossbow like he had tried to do previously but had no time to aim it. he held onto it and pushed himself away from the Griffon. Failing to stand up, he used all four hooves to skid backwards away from the enraged soldier. Once he deemed far enough he grabbed to loaded crossbow, aimed quickly at the Griffon and let the bolt fly. Not knowing where it would hit.

The griffon tried to close the distance with the help of his wings, which - admittedly - was successful. Only the bolt he caught in mid-air took much of the force out of the attack that followed. His left shoulder now featuring a wooden shaft, the landing was more a crashing as he fell to the ground. He hadn't lost his sword though, and was trying to keep the pony at distance while he got up again.

Scrapper took the free-time he got to get back up. He readied his hatchet and watched his every move, even as he got up. His blood covered goggles tipped up, he stared the Griffon in the eyes. His eyes were cold, dark and serious. That of which a crazy individual would have. Yet he wasn't crazy.
Still staring, still ready. He talked to the griffon, "Back for More?"

"You're gonna pay", the griffon grumbled as he got up, having a hard time ignoring the pain from his shoulder. Walking wasn't much of an option, so he settled for another wing-supported jump. But instead of swinging his sword, he threw it just as he leaped forward, hoping for a distraction to hit the pony directly with his right talon instead.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
He saw the sword fly at him and moved out the way, but the Griffon did catch him off guard and gave him a good hit to the face. But the hit caused his hatchet wielding hoof to cross and it caused the hatchet to hit the Griffons arm before he could take it away, no doubt leaving a good cut in it.
He recuperated from the punch and tossed the hatchet at the Griffons face after he backed away for the wounded soldier.

The griffon couldn't keep his weight completely from his left front leg upon landing, and combined with the pain from a new cut in his right arm it was enough for him to fail avoiding the hatched coming at his face. It was only made of glass, and wasn't strong enough to get through the bone, but his right eye was taken out nonetheless, now featuring a deep gash. Roaringly he stumbled back and tried to get track of his opponent again, but anger, panic and pain didn't do his awareness much good.

He was fed up of this fight, It ends. Now.
He slipped past the Griffon, picking up the Crossbow again. he went over and picked up a bolt, and loaded it. The Griffon surely seen him by now, but he quickly jumped out of a window and climbed onto the floor above.

The pony jumped out of a window... was he fleeing? No, that made no sense. The griffon had expected to die now, as far as his anger hadn't told him to kill that pony. Now the pony left. He wasn't sure what to do now, surely he wouldn't follow, this fight was lost. Panting heavily he went up to his fallen comrade to check if he really was dead, though he had little doubt about it. All the time, his remaining eye darted around wildly, still expecting the pony to come back and finish the job.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
He sneaked back in the exact same window he left out of. Directly behind the Griffon. He looked at the Crossbow and then held it behind the griffons head, with one hoof.
He knew he wouldn't miss. He looked out the window for any other problems and said, "I'll pay my debt with your life, mate." He pulled the lever on the bow and sent the bolt right through the back of his targets head. He dropped the Crossbow and seen the Combat knife stuck in the other Griffons leg, he pulled it out and it reminded him of one he used when he was much younger. He liked it, so he kept it.
On his way back to the Pegasus he tried to take his shank, but it was stuck in good. No matter, he had a replacement though.
He moved the box, and entered the room.

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Apollo would be found ready to attack, bund when he noticed the earth pony coming in, he relaxed and sank to the floor. "Thanks for the help", he said weakly, bothered by more than only the injury the bolt has caused. "Won't matter though, feels like the bolt was poisoned."
He felt his strength leaving by the minute, and the burning pain that he had originally felt around his injury was spreading accordingly. It wasn't too bad yet, he could still walk, but he saw no reason anymore. He wouldn't achieve what he had come for, he might as well try to relax his last few minutes in this wrecked world. But Shade had to know what had happened and more importantly, that she was searched for in Manehatten. Only one chance left...
"Hey, you think you could do me another favor?", he asked, sadness clearly visible in his golden eyes as he looked up to the unknown earth pony.

Scrapper looked at the bolt as he spoke, he was showing signs of being poisoned unluckily. He had grow his own knowledge of wounds and such from his own years of survival, but he had no way of curing this poison dart.
He heard every word the dying Pegasus said. "Sure mate, what is it?"

"I'm here to find somepony. Black unicorn, blue mane, red eyes, always wearing a black cloak. She's currently somewhere in the city, most likely well hidden. You'll know her when you have a throwing star against your throat", Apollo gave a quick description of his friend and than brought out a letter in an already opened envelope. "I don't have much hope that you will, but if you should happen to find her, please give her this."

Scrappers ears shot up when he recognized the description. He was talking about Shade, he made a pretty good choice trying to save him. He was important.
"Your talking about Shade aren't you? I know where to find her."

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Apollo shot up in surprise, an action that was repaid by a moment of vertigo before his heart was able to provide enough blood pressure. The pegasus didn't care though. "You know her?!?" He stared unbelievingly at Scrapper, this was a damn lot of chance. But it didn't matter, the only thing important was that the info would reach Shade. And possibly he could even deliver it personally. It wasn't a fun thing to do, but it was probably better if she heard it from a friend. And he had no clue what her relation to this earth pony was. "You have to lead me to her", he said, the poison forgotten for the moment as determination filled his eyes. He had the chance to see his last friend again before he would do his last breath, there was no way he wouldn't try it.

He saw determination. Not only that, it would be wrong of him to deny the Pegasus' dying wish. Shade mean't something to him that made him spark up like that.
"Well, you ain't going anywhere anytime soon like that. But There's always plan B" He helped the Pegasus onto his hooves, then lifted him onto his own back. The hole into the caves wasn't smart for two obvious reasons, so he took the long way. After a few minutes of running he found the surface entrance He and Shade found.
"This is it, You'd best hope she's down there."

Re: Arrival of a messenger [private]
Almost Apollo would have protested when the earth pony took him on his back, he wasn't that weak yet, but decided that it was probably for the best this way. The less he moved, the longer the poison would need to fully spread.
"At this time, there's a good chance she's at her hideout. Now is practically morning for her", he said as he placed himself on his own hooves again. The manhole cover promised a ladder underneath, he would have to climb down there himself. He was clearly insecure in his step and it was exhausting to only walk around. "My name's Apollo, by the way, Shade's friend and messenger. And who are you??", he asked out of curiosity and simply do distract him from the numbing pain that continued to spread through his body as he waited for the heavy cover to be lifted, and climbed down, slowly, for his body refused to work properly right now.

Scrapper moved the manhole by himself, its not like his currant company could do it.
In response to his question, "I'm Scrapper, and to be honest, I've only know Shade for a few days. I probably haven't fully earned her trust yet but that's obvious why. No meaning to rush you but, I did just kill of 3 Griffons. We should stay out of sight." He motioned Apollo into the manhole, and when he was able to get in he shut it as well. The sunlight becoming blocked out by intense darkness, waiting for the next big even to happen.
