Another Day [Private]

[Oberleutnant Windhover]

Zero pushed open the door to the bar, met with a fair bit of customers lined up at the bar, and a blast of warm air giving him some relief from the biting cold outside. Surely a stiff drink would warm him up. There was one seat left, and he made his way to go take it as he waved a bit. Something told him today was going to be a good day... Maybe it was going to be a good drink, or maybe spending some time with his favorite mare.

Maybe he was wrong.

"Hey, Maya!"

Maya served a few customers as she heard the door. She looked over and spotted zero. She waited till zero took the last free seat at the bar, then moved over to him. "how was your day?" she asked.

"Ah, you know. Same shit, different day... What about you, eh? I see you're gettin plenty of business."
Zero leaned forward on the bar, propping his head up with his foreleg. He looked less stressed than he usually did. Perhaps things were just going for him so far.

maya looked around "yeah pretty full... must have to do with the weather. everyone wants to warm himself with alcohol i guess." she leaned towards zero and gave him a small kis on the cheek. "so what do you want to drink?" she asked "maybe something nonalcoholic?"

Zero smiled a little. "Well I think we both remember what happened last time when it wasn't nonalcoholic...." He rubbed his chin and dug in one of his pockets for some bits.

"How about a soda?"

maya gave a small laugh "yeah i do.... it wasn´t bad... but yeah better not now....". she filled a glass with soda and placed it on the counter. "here" she said as she heard one of her guests wanted to order something. "excuse me, busyness to do.." she said before walking to the other table.

"Alright, no problem...."

Zero popped open his soda, catching the cap as it came down. He put it in is pocket, and took a good swig from the bottle. "Mmmn..." The fizzly sweetness tasted so good it hurt, as he hadn't eaten anything for quiet a while.

maya served the ponies and the went back to the counter. "so what are your plans for the rest of the day?" she asked Zero. she didn´t knew when the las customer would leave but mostly it was not later than 1 hour after the curfew, so there would be enough time to spend it with zero.

"Nothing, really. I'm 'on break'. Got something on your mind?"

Perhaps they could go for a short walk before the curfew. A little break from everything every once in a while is always good... The light snowfall looked quite beautiful, illuminated by the moonlight. As these few thoughts ran by in Zero's head, he took another swig from his soda, awaiting a reply.

"i had no plans, just wanted to spend some time with you. i can close after curfew, if there arent much guests left then. you could stay here to avoid the curfew watchers if you want." she replied not sure that they could do, but she guessed the would find some activities.

"Seems like a lot of them are leaving now... Probably don't want to get caught out so late. I, on the other hoof, don't mind spending the night over."

He took another sip from his near-empty soda bottle as he watched another satisfied customer leave, opening the door outside, into the dark cold.

maya looked over the tables, then started to say out loud. "about a half our, till the curfew starts, everyone who has a longer way home should finish his drink." then she turned back to zero."thought so, so what could we do?... and no... that was because i was drunk, we should start a bit slower...."

"No doubt. I was pretty smashed myself...."

Zero looked around, a few more guests rising to leave, many of them wanting just one more drink. Soon the bar was nearly empty, the quiet murmurs of the few left being the only noise to accompany the two at the time.

"Maybe we could just spend some time alone. Get to know each other better, huh?"

"that would be a good start i guess." maya said, then noticed the last customer leaving. she move to the door and locked it. "lets go upstairs to my room." she said heading to the stairs.

Zero hovered up out of his seat, tossing his bottle across the room into the trash. He turned around and followed Maya upstairs, for this time, he was fortunately sober.

maya opened the door to her room. and walked in. "don´t mind the mess. work is keeping me away from cleaning." she made her way to the bed, and pushed some stuff aside. Thens he sat down at the bed and signed zero to sit next to her.

Zero did so, stepping over various things. "Oh, I don't mind the mess... I lived in dirtier places." He sat down beside Maya, looking around the room he thought was familiar, but only in blurs and fuzzy memories.

"well...tell me something about ya. i mean we did it before, bu i was drunk and only remember some things..not everything." she lied down, placing a hoof on Zeros back, slowly stroking him. "so whats your backround story, your origin?" she asked.

Zero brought a hoof to his chin, rubbing it a little as he delved into the dark recesses of his mind.
"Well..." He began. "I'm from Bucklyn. Even before the war, that place had problems... Serious problems... I was a center for crime, vandalism, and prostitution... That's where I come into play." He paused briefly, recollecting his thoughts. "My mom... or if that's what you want to call her... was a whore. And I was just an accident she failed to stop. Whew, let me tell ya... She was horrible. Didn't even give me a name... Anyway, I raised myself on the streets, I just had to get away from her. She was always 'working'. So... after a while, her job finally caught up with her, and she was infected with some kind of disease... Now, this was a broken home, we didn't have any bits to pay for medicine..."

He paused again, a bit longer this time.

"We did have something else... And that's what got me here."

Maya silently listened. a bit sad about what zero has been through. she still stroked his back. she didn´t knew what to replay and stayed silent. pulling him to her, huggling him. "go on..." she said as she cuddled him.

[Oberleutnant Windhover]

"Drugs... Lots of them..." He continued. "My mom was a big time addict, all mixes and matches. I was 16 around this time, and I had to bust my ass for her ungrateful.... Sorry. Anyway, I ran drugs around the city, sold them so I could get her the medicine she needed. I know every nook and cranny in this city... She died a few years later, and I just kinda... Lived. Stayed in the shadows during the day, sabotuer by night. Figured J wasn't doing to much on my own, so I went and joined the rebellion... And that's how I met you."

Zero scratched the back of his mane, not all too used to having a mare this close. Not sober, anyway.
"So... what about you?"

[Maya Blackwing]

Maya hugged zero even tighter. "that all sounds so sad..." she said while clinging on to him. "my story isn´t much brighter.... you really want to know it?" she asked, while still stroking and hugging zero.

[Oberleutnant Windhover]

Zero almost looked confused.
"Sad...?" He eventually shrugged it off, proceeding to answer her question, not wanting to interrupt.
"Of course. That's what we're here for... right...?"

Those hugs felt somewhat strange... but comforting nonetheless.

maya took a deep breath.

"I was born in a small town, not big enough to remember its name. my farther was dead when i was born and i just lived with my mother. anything was about normal i guess. Then war started and i got separated from my mom. made it my own through the world. i started to trade with alcohol to earn my bits, even if it was war. soldiers often needed a drink. things weren´t that bad then. but then...." she stopped for a moment "then i got captured by some griffons. i thought they would kill me, but instead they tried to get informations from me. The tortured me.... i got plenty broken bones and some inner bleedings from them. through the fact i wasn´t able to say anything- i wouldnt have even if i would have known anything - they tossed me back to the ruins.
that was the point were i thought i would die..." she stopped for a moment.

Zero cocked his head, and looked down at her, waiting for her to continue.
"But... you didn't... What happened then?", he asked with an inquisitive tone.
He attempted to offer some comfort by returning the hugs, trying not to make himself look like a fool.

maya enjoyed the huggling.

"Well, yeah i didn´t. thanks to a unicorn stallion who found me. he took me to a soldiers camp and fixed much of my injuries with his medic magic. I stayed at there outpost, learned how to use the crossbow, and some other basic fighting stuff. It felt so good to hang out with some ponies for a longer time. The stallion was so nice and kind...... " a few tears start to ran down mayas cheek. "but that one day.... were...were" she started to sob. "this one day, a huge griffon attack... everything was so fast...i stood at the tower and shot many of them. as they flew i thought we´d have won.... but..but,i was wrong. as the dust calmed. i saw, i was the only one left."

she pressed herself against zero, crying.

Zero let out a long sigh, and let her cry into his shoulder, wrapping his hooves around her. There wasn't much he could do, and he didn't know how she felt. He did, however, know what it was like to be the only one. After a while, he brought her face up and wiped away her tears, hoping she'd feel better.

Maya looked into Zeros eyes. "He was my first love i guess... and...and i just lost him...." she was still crying. "please...please tell me you´ll never leave me...or die before me." she hugged zero tight. Normally she didn´t talk about her past much, but in zeros case, she made an exception, he was the first one, who made her feel love again. even if it started with sex.....

Zero sighed again. He was fairly sure he could keep the first promise, but the second... In a place like this, that was a hard promise to make...

"I..." He wasn't sure if he could say. Once he made a promise, there was no way in hell he'd break it. The pegasus gave her a tight hug, and a light kiss on her forehead.

"I promise."

Maya felt the kiss and heard the words. she knew it was hard to keep it. and she knew he might break it. but at least hes going to try it.... even if that is totally normal. She gave him a kiss on his lips. before lying down. "i guess you can move in here. the bed is big enough for both of us. also i could be sure you´re alive then...." she said while closing her eyes.

Zero laid down beside Maya, sliding a bit closer to her. This was... actually pretty big. He finally had a home, and somepony to share it with. It felt great. For once, he wouldn't be digging through garbage to get by... Hopefully it would last.

Maya felt zeros fur on her own. it was a good feeling to have someone around. " we just have to arrange were you can put your stuff, but we can think about it tomorrow..." she said while wrapping her hoof around zero. "good night zero." she said as she gave him a kiss before falling asleep.
